Successful ESPORG Workshop Highlights Wellbeing

“Improving wellbeing is a win for the driver, a win for the employer, and a win for the industry.”

Last week, ESPORG facilitated a workshop for several industry stakeholders and members with key presenters from various industries. The workshop highlighted several vital topics within the industry, namely emerging technology, cargo crime, sustainability and wellbeing.

Andrés Queralt Schade and Andrew Hayward from BOSCH introduced new technology and various support BOSCH offers to support the development of secure truck parking. Rino Defoor from the Office of the Governor of West Flanders addressed human trafficking and crime in transport and discussed viable solutions for a network of “Green Lane Stamps” by using Mac Address Scanners outside and within secure truck parking areas. Gregory Holley from BP and Bartek Malarecki from Milence discussed each of their company’s vision regarding sustainability and the business case for parking areas to invest in alternative fuel infrastructure. Finally, Druselia Betea and Christy Ha closed the workshop with a presentation highlighting the difficulties drivers face in their job and the lack of resources for them to focus on their wellbeing.

“Companies that focus on wellbeing have higher retention rates of employees and greater productivity. So many accidents on the road are caused by fatigue and we still have a deficit 600,000 drivers–what better way to attract new drivers and take care of the drivers we have than focusing on their wellbeing? Improving wellbeing is a win for the driver, a win for the employer, and a win for the industry.”

This workshop is one of the first in logistics to highlight and promote the wellbeing of the driver and offer solutions for companies to invest in their drivers’ improved mental, physical and spiritual wellness.
