ACEA-ChargeUp Europe Host Expert Workshop

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) and ChargeUp Europe hosted a workshop last week to discuss HDV electrification and charging, including market needs, current blockers and solutions.

A little background
The revised CO2 targets for heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers require a massively accelerated roll-out of zero-emission vehicles in the next few years. To meet the 2030 target, about 400,000 zero-emission vehicles will have to be on the road.

This vehicle fleet will need at least 50,000 suitable charging stations (including 35,000 MCS chargers). In addition, effective carbon pricing measures and a coherent regulation framework must be in place to support cost parity and level the playing field for zero-emission vehicles compared to conventional trucks and buses.

ACEA and ChargeUp Europe recently hosted a closed-door expert workshop on electric heavy- duty vehicles (eHDVs) charging. Gathering a wide range of stakeholders, the workshop facilitated an exchange of experiences, knowledge and views on the needs of different groups and current blockers to a seamless charging experience and served as a forum to identify potential practical solutions. Moreover, the workshop explored cooperation areas and joint advocacy opportunities.

ESPORG joined the workshop to provide the unique point of view of safe and secure parking areas, including the challenges that investors and operators face when implementing charging stations on site.
